Welcome to Sunrise Beach!

Hello All, and I hope you have been well considering all the anxiety-inducing happenings across our globe? More than ever, crochet is coming to the rescue! After all, it could also be listed under a post-apocalyptic life skill, so keep those hooks, yarn, and needles close!

This latest Square is one I've wanted to do for ages. It's a tribute to one of my beloved beaches. Sunrise Beach, in Muizenberg! I've lost count of the early morning walks we have taken on this amazing stretch of heaven on earth. I've fond memories which I will treasure forever of our rescue dogs, so timid, so terrified of water, eventually becoming " water surfing" furry bundles of confident
joy!

This beach is terrific any time of the day (except when the South-Easter is blowing!), but more so especially in the very early morning or late afternoon. Then the light takes on a special luminescence which can only be described as celestial! Renaissance blues, blushing pinks flecked with gold. Truly, if Botticelli's Venus herself sailed in on her shell, rowed across the placid "wine-dark" waves by a chorus of angelic Cherubin, I would not be at all surprised! It's no wonder that Cape Town is favourited as a paradise for photographers and film-makers. It's "something" about the light! Well, I could wax lyrical about this special spot for ages! Put this on your bucket list of absolutely FAB places to visit and see for yourself. 😍

Wishing you buckets of happy crochet hours!

  1. Beautiful. I do not like to make something with little squares, but I am going to have to find a way to use this.

    1. Thank you! :D Yes I can imagine! Also becuase the designs are quite "busy" a colourway would have to be carefully planned. I am in the process of designing a patchwork style crochet-along blanket...so some of these squares, alternating, or interspersed with plain squares. Watch this space! :D xx

  3. This is my first visit to your site and Wow! This is one of the most beautiful squares I have ever seen! And the colors are perfect. Looking at the "Popular Posts" on the side of your site and I am amazed - especially with the fact that I never found your site before. I will now make sure I visit you regularly!

  5. I'm very happy with the Elle Yarn Family Knit DK,their Pure Gold range, and the Batik too.All pretty economical. There's also Coffee Cotton, but not everyone stocks it and the colour range is a bit limited. A nice yarn though. Occassionaly I splurge on Stylecraft Special DK. Not too expensive either for a 100g ball. :-)

    1. Hi Dunia! That's so good to know. I am very isolated where I am in Diep River. I don't know any other crocheters close by! :D My Cat is a great crochet companion though. I'm happy to meet you! I'd LOVE to get a regular crochet group together. Any thoughts on that? xx

    3. Hi Melinda! Yes, I only added the one colourway. :-) Here's the other, in order from the centre: GRAPE (stylecraft special dk), JUST PINK (elleyarns family knit dk), PISTACHIO ( stylecraft special dk), DUCK EGG (elle yarns family knit dk), BELLFLOWER (elle yarns family knit batik dk), TEQUILA (elle yarns family knit batik dk), CAMEL ( stylecraft special dk ), then BELLFLOWER, GRAPE, DUCK EGG, TEQUILA ending with GRAPE. The long chain that's weaved through the TEQUILA double crochets is STONE ( stylecraft special dk ).Hope that helps a bit?

  16. Greetings from North America by way of NORTH Africa (military brat Wheelus AFB 1959-1966) The Sunrise Beach Square literally took my breath away. BUT I'm not finding the color listings for this particular square ending in the luscious purple. Not that I don't like the alternate colors, but it is the purple/turquoise combo I'm searching for. HELP!!!
